Alpert's preface, which describes the assiduous way in which Dashow ferreted out the "genuine from the bogus." The result of this devotion, by both Dashow and Carpenter, makes this book a resource and a treasure for all who peruse it, savor it, and -- indeed -- devour it.. Perhaps most interesting, and unexpected, are her two chapters addressing how medical imaging -- the ability to see "bones and all" -- was itself imaged in and influenced the visual, literary, and fine arts. Instead of that asinine two hour concert that came free with the book (sarcasm), why did we not see her driving him mad at these parties and events? Whether she ignored him entirely, flirted with other men, or made flippant comments designed to enrage or amuse him, it would have been a far better (and more entertaining) use of pages than the lyrics to every song at the musicale.Sigh. And she is exactly what Miguel needs in order to find happiness in his life. This a one of those "Here's WHAT to do" books that doesn't talk at all about HOW to do any of it.
