"Banal and predictable" are her own choice of words, a sort of defensive self criticism (to describe her bringing up Benjamin in her conclusion). Full of great photos with concise explanations. Alpert's preface, which describes the assiduous way in which Dashow ferreted out the "genuine from the bogus." The result of this devotion, by both Dashow and Carpenter, makes this book a resource and a treasure for all who peruse it, savor it, and -- indeed -- devour it.. All I can say about the accompanying illustrations - and the less said the better - is they are a perfect fit for this text.. Drawing upon the work of Joseph Campbell, Rollo May, Carl Jung (and others), Gurevich and Walter have linked the mythological and its expression, the unconscious and craftmanship, the shamanic and the artistic.
