My own father, a land grant university mechanical engineer, was a bit lax in this zone, over his years. It is one of those books you can keep reading over and over again. The text is written extremely well and is easy to comprehend. Visiting Egypt, he acknowledges Aswan as problem, but goes on perhaps too long/hopefully about retro-patching damages done (excessive fear of "paralysis" = unnecessary failures of timely restraint?). I've learned a multitude of new words such as sploshing and merkin and am now aware of which creature has a penis on it's head! Aside from the informative and entertaining aspects of the history of sex the author also shares with us a bit of her own life, which was quite interesting as well. This account of the fire is almost too complete. A must read for anyone connected with offshore life. There is something in it for everyone willing to take the time to peruse it. Very fast. Samuel C. Full of great photos with concise explanations. "Banal and predictable" are her own choice of words, a sort of defensive self criticism (to describe her bringing up Benjamin in her conclusion). He took me through a very personal history of concepts I have studied, and struck many chords by recounting such things as the day the term "breeder reactor" was thought up. Truly fa

Continuum Mechanics for Engineers, Third Edition provides engineering students with a complete, concise, and accessible introduction to advanced engineering mechanics. With an abundance of worked examples and chapter problems, it carefully explains necessary mathematics as required and presents numerous illustrations, giving students and practicing professionals an excellent self-study guide to enhance their skills. They have also altered the book’s notationa common struggle for many studentsto better align it with modern continuum mechanics literature. This book addresses students’ need to understand the sophisticated simulation programs that use nonlinear kinematics and various constitutive relationships. The authors’ presentation enables continuum mechanics to be applied to biological materials, in light of their current importance. Presents Material Consistent with Modern LiteratureA new rearranged and expanded chapter on elasticity more completely covers Saint-Venant’s solutions. Subsections on extension, torsion, pure bending and flexure present an excellent foundation for posing and solving basic elasticity problems. This book provides information that is useful in emerging engineering areas, such as micro-mechanics and biomechanics. Through a mastery of this volume’s contents and additional rigorous finite element training, they will develop the mechanics foundation necessary to skill
