Fabulously informative and remarkably personal, Sex in the Museum takes us on a rare journey behind the curatorial scenes of one of the most important museums of sex in the world. Hilarious and informative, filled with tidbits about erotic history and modern fetishes, it is required reading for anyone interested in the ever-shifting politics of human sexuality."Tony Perrottet, author of Napoleon's Privates: 2500 Years of History Unzipped"Unpretentious and genuinely inquisitiveForbes's crisp, chatty prose style nicely buffers the shock value of her material A provocative chronicle steeped in eyebrow-raising details and personal honesty." Kirkus "fun and thought provoking Like the museum itself, this memoir simultaneously shocks, informs, and challenges myths about sex." Publishers Weekly"Sex in the Museum reads almost like the exploits of a Jane Austen heroine thrIn SEX IN THE MUSEUM, Sarah invites readers to travel from suburban garages where men and women build sex machines, to factories that make sex toys, to labyrinthine archives of erotica collectors. Sarah Forbes was in graduate school when she stumbled upon a museum dedicated to sex. Now Saraha married mother of twoproudly sports her title as Curator of Sex. That was over twelve years ago. The anthropology student hesitated when her boyfriend suggested she apply for a job, but apply she did, and it wasn’t long before a part-time position at New York’s MUSEUM OF SEX lead to a gig as the museum's curator. Escorting us in to the hidden world of sex, illuminating the never-talked-about communities and eccentricities of our sexual subcultures, and telling her own personal story of a decade at The Museum of Sex, Sarah asks readers to grapple with the same questions she did: when it comes to sex, what is good, bad, deviant, normal? Do such terms even apply? If everyone has sexual secrets, is it possible to really know another person and be known by them? And importantly, in our hyper-sexualized world, is it still possible to fall in love?Curator of the Museum of Sex for over a decade, Sarah Forbes currently serves as the museum’s curatorial consultant. She holds a master’s degree in Anthropology from the New School, and has been featured in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Reuters, Time Out, and on the Today Show, Discovery, MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan, Bravo's Ironic Iconic America, and HBO's Katie Morgan Show among many others.
. Sarah lives in NYC with her familyI guess great if you are proficient in the French language. This magnum opus by Bruce Carpenter is truly a labor of love. They also provide insight into the value of collections of this nature because they "allow us to more clearly see the emergent archetypes of collective experience." This tribute to Rodger Dashow, the collector of this artwork, is underlined by Steven G. Maybe a lot of hokum, but fun anyway.Once again, a great and rare book. A wonderful work including many letters of Joubert (to and from his friends/lovers) of which very few have been translated. Alpert's preface, which describes the assiduous way in which Dashow ferreted out the "genuine from the bogus." The result of this devotion, by both Dashow and Carpenter, makes this book a resource and a treasure for all who peruse it, savor it, and -- indeed -- devour it.. Honored to post the first review here of it.Maybe the most artful of the aphorists, Joubert doesn't seem esoteric, mysterious or contrived like Emerson or Maeterlinck are sometimes. "What do you want to do leave it in the bombs". But I would implement all forms of it from burners utilizing spent fuel and warhead material to breeders with the Thorium pure cycle. A unique book of aphorisms. A more fun book is Joan Evans' "Joubert: Unselfish Egotist," a work of historical fiction. Those guys write ecstatically and are often overly verbose, often unfocused. As a young nuclear engineer, I was enchanted by
